Admission Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Official transcripts
  • No GMAT required

Applicants to the UIS Online Human Resource Management Certificate must meet one of the following requirements for admission.

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. No GMAT required for 2.5 GPA or higher.
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a 2.0 – 2.49 GPA and/or waiving of gateway prerequisites will be considered with two years of substantial experience and responsibility in a field related to the area of study, as documented by a current resume.

For the online Human Resource Management Certificate program, you must complete three courses totaling nine credit hours. You may complete prerequisite course MGT 431 concurrently with certificate coursework, as advised. The use of a Windows-based PC is preferred for this program.

Beginning with a strategic overview of the organization, this course will use concepts and tools involving organizational analysis, job analysis, workforce planning, recruitment strategies and selection techniques to effectively acquire and develop talent. Employment law within the legal and social context of the organization and organizational entry transition issues will also be examined.

This course examines key human resource concepts and tools that enhance organizational performance. Topics covered include performance management, employee training and development, employee and labor relations, managing diverse organizations, total compensation, and risk management.

Beginning with the process of aligning human resource and business strategies, this course considers the overall design of the human resource management infrastructure to enable optimal employee performance relative to the strategic goals of the organization. Topics considered include globalization, outsourcing, change management, leadership, team building, and communication skills. Consideration will also be given to differences in HRM strategy related to the size and life cycle of the organization.
